There was a Primary in Texas Yesterday
The results have Governor Greg Abbott and Beto O’Rourke winning their primaries, with scandal plagued incumbent Attorney General Ken Paxton headed for a runoff with George P. Bush (Yes, those Bushes) as well as a runoff on the Dem side.
On the Congressional side, things are a bit more intersting, with anti-abortion Blue Dog Henry Cuellar headed into a runoff with Jessica Cisneros, who was publicly supported by AOC in their battle for the 28th district, which covers south suburban San Antonio and Laredo. Without a 3rd candidate, it’s possible that Cisneros would won outright, but without the FBI raiding Cuellar’s home and offices, it’s likely that he would have won outright.
There will also be a runoff in TX-30, but Jasmine Crockett got almost 3 times as many votes as her nearest challenger, so it’s highly likely that she will win that at a canter. (Crockett was one the leaders in the fight against Republican efforts to keep minorities from voting)
In TX-35, a very safe Democratic district, Austin city councilman Greg Cesar won decisively, which is notable because he’s a member of Democratic Socialists of America, and another candidate supported by Ocasio-Cortez.
I really hope that Cuellar gets taken out. He’s a horrible Democrat.
